AKA Welcome to my blog, part deux.

Back in 2019 I set out to create a little corner of my own on the internet. That small little spot is still up and running (here is the first post) but over time I was distracted with work and life and haven’t kept it up. We are now in 2026 and it is time to resurrect the blog and the site and do something fresh and new. So welcome to mcWanke.com! My (new) little corner of the internet!
The world has gotten very interesting over the past year or so. That may be the understatement of the… well… the understatement of all of humanity! The pace that the world is moving right now is frankly insane. Working in, and being interested and invested in, technology has always been a challenge. There is always something new. However, it used to be that we were on-boarding new tech to use every few years. Now it is every few DAYS. Just mind-blowing.
Staying on top of things is harder than ever. This site and this blog is one of my coping mechanisms to attempt to stay on top of things. Here I can research and read and then attempt and try. You learn best by reading and then doing. This is me “doing”.
Almost seven years ago I listed the following goals around the site:
- Learning more about web technologies. This isn’t a diary – blogs by definition are on the web so just by creating it I am building up my own knowledge around web tech. This will allow me to test technology and build, learn, and grow in an area that I want to learn more about
- Building a professional voice. I am at the point in my career where I have had some wonderful opportunities and worked with some amazing people to create some fantastic products. Typically, I have been comfortable to be behind the scenes but as I grow professionally and get older I have come to realize that I have a voice that can contribute and possibly help both new and seasoned engineers
- Build my writing skills. A lot of very successful authors state that one of the best ways to get better at writing is to write. A lot. What better way to build writing skills than by writing about my day-to-day experiences?
Today I am a bit of a different person. I have certainly learned quite a bit and have some different goals in mind. Therefore, let’s adjust the goals for the first half of 2026:
- Learn, learn, learn! They say that repetition increases uptake on learning. That is still a great goal and for me – I hope I never stop learning
- Building a professional voice. Yes this is a direct repeat. I want to show who I am to the world. As I write this I am currently seeking a new opportunity. This is a platform that can be used to showcase how I can help others.
- Show my skills. Writing is a skill, but really I want to show more about what makes someone successful today in 2026. In my opinion, that is being able to create solutions to problems. Writing code used to be a solution. Now, creativity and the ability to build solutions are key to the technology workplaces and the success of engineering
- Help others. The more I work with other humans and grow both in age and in experience, the more I find myself believing that it is the intersection of people that is something that truly matters to us as humans. Therefore, this site will be a place where I can document projects, struggles, and solutions. If any of the words and information here can help just one other person then it will all be worth it.
Like I stated seven years ago: “That is enough for a start here”. As always, thanks for reading, and I hope you have an awesome day!
